The Gospel & Generosity (Week One)

Posted by Chan Kilgore on

This summer we are going to do something we have never done before. We are going to do a seven week email series entitled GOSPEL & GENEROSITY. I want to cast a vision during this GOSPEL GENEROSITY series not just simply for what we are TO DO as a church, but I want to cast a vision for who we are TO BE as a people. The emails will contain three parts:

  1. Biblical VISION for generosity
  2. A Gospel ACTION for generosity
  3. A Gospel PRAYER for generosity

So join me in this seven week email campaign. I know it will be easy to hit delete on this email and not engage, but I want to challenge you to fall in love with Jesus in such a way that it is reflected in your everyday giving.

Fifteen years ago we started CrossPointe Church with a passion to point our communities to Jesus. We knew if we could preach Jesus, and put Jesus on full display in our everyday lives, then we could see this city transformed by the power of the gospel for the glory of God. This is why we exist, and why we will always exist.

The question becomes, what do people look like who are captivated by Jesus in their everyday lives? Being captivated by Christ in all of life means having the cross shape every facet of your life, which leads to living every day in response to the gospel (Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15). As the cross has two beams one vertical and the other horizontal; the gospel requires of us two responses: the vertical response is GRATITUDE and the horizontal response is GENEROSITY. A gratitude for who Jesus is and what he has done for us on the cross. A generosity that is fueled from a heart of gratitude that leads to everyday generosity of our time, talents, and treasures.

Express gratitude for what a great of savior we have in Jesus. Write down three ways that you have experienced God’s grace. Tape it on your mirror or fridge so every day you are reminded to express gratitude to God for what he has done in your life. Tell someone today how grateful you are for God’s grace in your life.

Heavenly Father, thank you for expressing your great love for me in sending your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for me (Romans 5:8). Thank you for your saving and sanctifying grace. Forgive me for those times I fail to express my wholehearted gratitude for your grace and mercy. May your spirit produce in me a greater heart of gratitude this week. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
