Title: Letters of Recommendation

Letter of Ink & Stone
  • Two Meanings
    • (1) God wrote the law on stone tablets (Ex. 24)
      • The face of Moses would shine after being in the presence of God (Ex. 34)
    • (2) The Law was external demands without inward change. Our hearts remained stone and cold toward God (Ezekiel 11:19, 36:26; Jeremiah 31:33)
  • Characteristics
    • You are insufficient, ministry of death, glory faded before ending, ministry of condemnation, led to fear and being timid (veiled), hearts and minds were hardened.
  • Sam Storms
    • “Thus the inadequacy of the Mosaic Law was not due to any inherent sinfulness or failure on its part. Its inadequacy, rather, was that it could only prescribe what people ought to do but could not make provision that would sufficiently enable them to fulfill its commands”
Letter of the Spirit on Human Hearts
  • “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” (Luke 22:20)
    • Jesus prayed, “If you are willing, remove this cup from me” (Luke 22:42)
    • See Habakkuk 2:16, Psalm 11:4, and Ezekiel 23:32-34
  • Characteristics
    • Perfection written on human hearts by the Holy Spirit
    • Declaration of sufficiency/qualification, not coming from ourselves but from God, Life-Giving, ministry of righteousness, permanent, unchanging, gives hope that leads to boldness, we are given eyes to see and new hearts to feel, freedom
BEHOLDING & BECOMING
  • Behold
    • How is the life, death, and resurrection completely sufficient for the Christian?
    • Is there anything that we can add or take-away?
  • Become/Reflect (Being Transformed)
    • What should we believe and do when we feel stuck spiritually?
