Question

Have you prayed and sought after renewal during these past weeks?

3 Petitions in Paul’s Prayer
  1. to be strengthened in their inner-bring

  2. to know and experience to love of Jesus
  3. to grow in the fullness of God

“Filled with the fullness of God”
  • “there is no more staggering statement in the whole range of Scripture than this.” Martin Lolyd-Jones

  • Inward transformation is greater than adjustment of external circumstances.
  • We walk away from this text knowing that God desires to fill you up in order for you to be more deeply formed into the image of Jesus. Our maturation in the Faith will not increase until the love of the Father is more deeply rooted in our inner being.

What does this mean?
  • Colossians 1 – “in Christ the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.”
  • Colossians 2 – “For in Christ the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him.”
  • Illustration
    • A bottle can be full of sand from the sahara. It is full but it does not ccontain all of the sahara. In the same way, we are filled to fulness with God and as we grow and mature we are continually filled to fullness.
    • Jesus was completely and perfectly full as though every grain of sand from the sahara was contained in him.

Application
  • Are you a presence of peace?
  • Do you reflect the one who fills you up?
    • We should reflect the one who fills us. Let us look to Jesus in whom the whole deity of God dwelled and let us be strengthened and filled accourding to his glorious, unlimited resources. Let us reflect the beauty of his love.
