OVERVIEW

FEARFUL SILENCE
  • Mark 9:30-32
  • The disciples pridefully compared themselves to one another to determine who was the greatest.
  • Application #1 | What fears are keeping you silent before God?
    • When God says something you don’t like will you surrender or remain silent in fear?
PRIDEFUL SILENCE
  • Mark 9:33-41
  • Jesus calls his disciples to servanthood – serving every the least among them.
  • Pride in the disciples also led to jealously of other disciples who were not part of the original 12.
  • Application #2 | How is pride and jealousy preventing you from being a servant to others?
    • Looking to Jesus, how are being led to serve others this week?
A SERVANT’S SELF-DENIAL
  • Mark 9:42-50
  • Jesus gives a stern warning to not minimize our sin because it will impact others.
  • Disciples are called to a life of self-denial, even denying ourselves good things in order to lay hold of what is better.
  • Application #3 | Which of your two appetites will you feed and which will you starve?
    • Self-Denial will require sacrifice (salt) and suffering (fire). (9:49)
    • The choice you make will impact others. (9:50)
