JESUS SUFFERS ALONE
- Judas leaves him [Mark 14:18], Disciples Fail Him [14:32-40], Betrayed with a kiss [14:44], Disciples run away [14:50].
- Would you have made a better disciple? No.
- Zechariah 13:7 “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.”
JESUS SUFFERS THE WRATH OF GOD
- Mark 14:34, 36
- Why did Jesus have such a strong reaction to the upcoming suffering while so man before and after him faced death with boldness?
- Jesus wasn’t burdened by the physical pain but the spiritual reality of carrying the sins of the world and enduring the full wrath of God in judgement.
- The Cup of God’s Judgement | Ezekiel 23:32-34, Isaiah 51:22
- Jesus wasn’t burdened by the physical pain but the spiritual reality of carrying the sins of the world and enduring the full wrath of God in judgement.
WATCH & PRAY
- Mark 14:32,38
- The disciples were not simply instructed to pray for Jesus while he suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, rather, they were to watch how Jesus battled through the burden in prayer and then pray for themselves in the battle facing them.
- Even though the disciples slept instead of praying, the Gospel of John in 17:1-26 records Jesus praying for his disciples then and now.
