MARK 15:21-39

THE EVENTS & THE EVIDENCE

    • Rufus, the son of Simon was a leader in the church in Rome, where Mark was writing this letter (Romans 16:13)
    • Trial, Beaten, and Mocked (Isaiah 50:6)
    • They offered him wine (Psalm 69:21)
    • They crucified him (Psalm 22:16)
    • They divided his garments (Psalm 22:18)
    • Jesus was crucified with 2 robbers (Isaiah 53:12)
    • Passerby’s derided Jesus (Psalm 22:7-8)
    • At noon, darkness descended (Amos 8:9)
    • Jesus says, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1)

THE PURPOSE

    • The wall between God’s presence and mankind was torn down
    • Jesus drank in full the cup of God’s wrath against our sin

FOUR IMPLICATIONS

    • The presence of God indwells all Christians (1 Corinthians 3:16)
    • Equal Access to God for all people (Galatians 3:28-29)
    • No human priest stands between you and God (Hebrews 7:25)
    • You can freely and body enter the presence of the God (Hebrews 4:14-16)
