1 John 2:18-27

ETERNAL LIFE

  • 1 John 2:25 “And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.”
  • What’s a stake in letting people believe whatever they want? Eternal life
  • What is eternal life? ““And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3).
  • (1 John 5:20) “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”

LIARS & THEIR LIES

  • Last Hour – in the redemptive story of God throughout history – we are in the final chapter.
  • Anti-Christ | Term used only by John to mean both a singular individual and mostly a principle. In this case, 1 John 2:22 defines the anti-christ as “Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.”
  • Matthew 16:15 “Jesus asked his disciples, ‘But who do you say that I am?”
  • John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
ABIDE IN TRUTH
  • Confess Jesus – Romans 10:9 and receive eternal life
  • Anointed by God and given all knowledge
  • Abiding simply means to remain. In this case, upon hearing the gospel, we confessed Jesus and we come to know God. Don’t move or add to what we received in Jesus.
  • Personal Confession – remain in the spiritual truth of the gospel as you grow. Don’t deviate from the hope of Jesus.
  • Public Proclamation – don’t shy away from declaring the truth that our only hope for knowing God is through Jesus Christ. There is no other way.
  • While all religions try to climb the mountain to know God – each beginning from their own perspective. Christians believe that God descended the mountain because none of us would be able to climb the mountain of God.
