DEALING WITH AN UNJUST WORLD

God Established the Authorities

Romans 13:1-2 “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgement.”

1 Peter 2:13 “For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority – whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed.”

Shrewd Caution [8:2-9]

  •  Don’t disrespect the leader [8:3a]
  • Don’t return evil with evil {8:3b]
  • Godly disobedience [8:6]

Patient Faith [8:10-13]

  • Delayed Judgement [8:10-11]
  • License for evil [8:11]
  • Delay is motivated by mercy [2 Peter 3:9]
  • Fear God

Joyful Trust [4:17]

We can rest in the knowledge that God is in control and has not lost sight of our problem.

Concluding Thought

Live with a patient faith in the fear of God in this broken world as you joyfully trust in him.

Question for Reflection

  • Where are you currently struggling with impatience toward God’s timing and purposes?
  • Are you walking in the “fear of God” or are you trying to control the circumstances around you?
  • What would it look like for you to joyfully trust in God this week?
