INTRODUCTION

  • Mark’s gospel is paced like an action film. Chapters 1-10 span 3.5 year. The action moves in slow motion starting in chapter 11. Chapters 11-16 span 7 days.
  • Sunday – Triumphal Entry
  • Monday – Cleansing of the Temple and Cursing the Fig Tree
  • Tuesday – Questioning Jesus

QUESTION #1

  • Who do you think you are? What gives you the right…?
  • Same question asked today: Why does Jesus get to tell me who I can love and what I can or cannot do?
  • Jesus answers with a question – revealing the heart behind the question – a heart demanding independence and desiring to be liked by others.
  • Application: What do your questions toward God reveal about your heart? Demanding Independence? Desire to be liked?

QUESTION #2

  • Flattery paved the road toward the trap of an either/or question?
  • Though the religious asking about paying taxes, they did not care about the answer as much as they wanted to trap Jesus and control him. The question was a distraction to their real intent.
  • Application: Are your questions before God a mere distraction to conceal your true motives and desires?

QUESTION #3

  • Theological trickery meant to confine God like trapping a hungry lion in a wet cardboard box.
  • Jesus calls out the lacking of biblical understanding and knowledge of God’s power.
  • Application: Are your questions toward God trying to confine and control God with human reason and/or minimizing God’s Word for personal gain.

STORYTIME

  • The parable of the vineyard and its tenants is a picture of God and the nation of Israel, exposing the character of God and the nature of man.
  • God is the rightful owner of our lives. He is kind, patient, generous, and long-suffering. We is just and will destroy those walking in rebellion and he is merciful – sending his own son to bring salvation.

BRING YOUR QUESTIONS TO JESUS WITH HUMBLED HEART TO HAVE YOUR MOTIVES REVEALED AND HEART HEALED.
