Mark 10:13-31
CHILD OF WEAKNESS
- Mark 10:13-16
- Children we considered insignificant and the disciples did not consider them worthy of Jesus’ time.
- Jesus angrily rebukes the disciples and hold up the faith of a child as necessary to receive the Kingdom of God.
- Application #1 | How do you approach Jesus?
- Child of Weakness or Child of Works
CHILD OF WORKS
- Mark 10:17-22
- The question – what must I do to be saved?
- Discipleship cost everything – laying down our trinkets and dollar store treasures to take hold of the surpassing treasure of Jesus.
- Application #2 | What are you carrying as you come to Jesus?
- Repent of your sin (Acts 3:19)
- Repent of Not Doing Good (James 4:17)
- Repent of Your Own Righteousness (Isaiah 64:6)
CHILD OF PROMISE
- Mark 10:23-31
- Salvation is impossible with man but it is possible with God because Jesus is the true and better ‘rich young ruler.’
- Tim Keller writes, “Jesus, who at this point is about thirty-one years old, looks at him and identifies with him. Jesus, too, is a rich young man, far richer than this man can imagine. Jesus has lived in the incomprehensible glory, wealth, love, and joy of the Trinity from all eternity. He has already left that wealth behind him. Paul says that though Jesus Christ was rich, for our sakes he became poor (2 Corinthians 8:9).”
- Application #3 | Are you standing before Jesus as a “child of weakness” or a “child of works”?
